Corman Says Millheim Water Replacement Project Will Improve Service, Keep Costs Down for CustomersMillheim Borough in Centre County has been awarded a $240,000 low-interest loan and a $1.639 million grant under the state's Pennvest program to undertake a major water main replacement project on Main Street, according to Sen. Jake Corman (R-34). The aging borough water distribution system is plagued with leaks, making the system unreliable and resulting in frequent repairs that cut off water service to residents. The primary water distribution main runs along the Route 45 corridor and is the main source of leaks. Corman said the $1.87 million project will involve replacing 9,100 linear feet of 4-inch water line with 8-inch ductile iron pipe and appurtenances. "This project will not only improve the quality of life for area resident but create jobs and encourage economic development," Corman said. "Without this state assistance, user fees would have had to increase dramatically – at a time when water customers can least afford to pay more." He added that PennDOT plans to resurface State Route 45 in the Fall of 2012 and has offered to coordinate roadway restoration at a significant cost-savings. "This is a major investment in the borough's infrastructure, and one that will make a real difference in the lives of area residents," Corman said. "It will also provide opportunities for economic growth and jobs for area workers."
