Corman to Hold Annual Student Government Seminar for High School Students

(HARRISBURG) – On Friday, April 4, 2008, Senator Jake Corman (R-34) will host his annual Student Government Seminar for Future Leaders.

Corman invited high school seniors and juniors from each of the high schools in the 34th Senatorial District to take part in the full day seminar, “Senator for a Day”, to be held at Toftrees Resort in State College.

Over 150 young people will attend the daylong event that provides them a rare one on one experience to directly dialogue with those who make our state and government work.

“From crime and punishment to health care issues, the seminar gives students the chance to air views, offer input and learn more about state government and talk with key players in the legislative process,” said Corman. “The best way to learn about the legislative process is take part in it. My seminar gives students a first-hand opportunity to develop legislation, debate important issues and vote on bills in an open floor session.”

Students participate in a mock Legislative Session, drafting and working legislation through the committee process all the way to the Senate floor for a vote.

The seminar begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 2:30 PM.

Senator Corman wishes to thank all of the corporate and business sponsors whose generosity make this Seminar possible.

They are: First Quality, Dominion, Columbia Gas, First Energy, CBICC, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Camel Express, Graymont, S&A Homes, Joe Krentzman & Son, Inc., Buchart Horn, Penelec, Restek, Shaner Hotel Group, Blazosky Associates, Snedeker Energy, Wetlands Habitat Management, Poole Anderson Construction, Sylvan Learning Center, Wings of Kindness, and Truss Tech.
