Local Volunteer Fire, EMS Companies to Receive State Grants

A number of volunteer fire and emergency medical services companies in the 34th Senatorial District have been awarded state funding through the Volunteer Fire Company Grant Program, according to Sen. Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte).

Corman says the program provides volunteer fire companies – including those that provide ambulance and rescue services – with grants of up to $15,000 for construction and renovation of fire houses; the purchase or repair of equipment; and debt reduction.

“These volunteers provide vital services to our communities and they deserve our support,” Corman said. “These days, the increased cost of equipment to help firefighters provide quality response to emergencies and keep them safe can be a serious strain on many companies’ budgets. These grants will enable our fire companies to focus more on protecting our communities and bringing in new members, and less on raising money. And it will help to provide them with the equipment they need to do their jobs effectively.”
