Senate Budget Hearings Available Live on the Internet

HARRISBURG — Senate hearings on the Governor’s proposed budget begin Monday February 23 and for the first time will be available for viewing live on the Internet this year, according to Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Jake Corman (R-Bellefonte) and Democratic Chairman Jay Costa (D-Allegheny).

The hearings will run through March 5 and can be accessed at The hearings are also available live on and

“In keeping with our commitment to open government, we want to make these hearings available to all state residents,” Corman said. “We expect this year’s hearings will receive a lot of attention, given the large revenue shortfall that we face and the need to cut spending and look carefully at every program.”

Corman and Costa said the hearings provide an opportunity for the Appropriations Committee to hear cabinet secretaries, agency officials and other members of the Administration detail their plans for the upcoming fiscal year, and that state taxpayers should also have a chance to listen and provide input.

“A wealth of information about state government becomes available at budget hearings. Having them on the web allows all Pennsylvanians, even those who can’t travel to Harrisburg, to learn more about any department or program that interests them, and to see how their tax dollars are being used,” Costa said.

All hearings will be held in the Hearing Room 1 on the main level of State Capitol’s North Office Building in Harrisburg. In addition to video, audio and written summaries of the hearings will be available at the Senate Republican website:
