Senate Approves Land Transfer Bill to Enable Completion of Benner Commerce Park

Measure Expected to be Signed by Governor

(HARRISBURG) — The Senate gave final approval today to legislation sponsored by Senator Jake Corman (R-34) that would pave the way for the completion of a new business park and new jobs in Centre County. Senate Bill 862 now goes to the governor for his signature.

The measure would transfer a portion of state-owned land off of Interstate 99 in Benner Township from the Department of General Services to the Centre County Industrial Development Corp. The transfer would allow for an access road that will enable the Benner Commerce Park to be finalized.

“Completion of this land transfer will enable us to bring new economic opportunities to our area and create jobs at a time when we need them most,” Corman said. “I’m pleased that the Senate moved quickly on this legislation so that we can get the park up and running and attract new companies to this area.”

Corman stated that water and sewer lines are being put in place, and Cleveland Bros., has moved to the industrial park. The land transfer is the final piece needed to open the park to new tenants.

“There has been interest in locating from other companies, but we couldn’t move ahead without the access road,” Corman said. “At a time when unemployment is high and the economy is struggling, we simply can’t afford to turn away jobs. This is a major economic boost for our area.”
