The Juniata Valley Boy Scouts of America have been awarded a $250,000 state grant to make improvements to the Seven Mountains Scout Camp in Peters Township, according to Sen. Jake Corman (R-34) and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171).
The grant was provided through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP). The CCPP program is administered by DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other non-profits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.
Corman said the funds will be used for the construction of a comfort station/shower house building, installation of utilities, landscaping and other related site improvements. The facility will also be made handicapped-accessible.
“These improvements will help to modernize the camp, which is used by so many young people, community groups and volunteers and is such a great resource for this area,” Corman said. “This grant will help to improve the quality of life for those who use and enjoy this facility year-round.
“We are so pleased to receive this funding for the Seven Mountains Camp because it serves so many area residents who will benefit from the much-needed upgrades,” Benninghoff added.
Jim Kennedy, scout executive, thanked area legislators for their support of the project.
“The Juniata Valley Boy Scouts of America is extremely grateful to Senator Corman, Representative Benninghoff, and other legislators in securing this funding, which will enable us to build a new shower house and rest room facility at Seven Mountains Scout Camp,” Kennedy said. “Through this project we will be better able to meet the needs of all scouts, volunteers and community groups who use this camp, including those in need of family-assist handicapped accessible facilities.”
