(HARRISBURG) – The Borough of Bellefonte has been awarded $941,824 to revitalize waterfront property on Dunlap Street, Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-34) and state Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-171) announced today.
“The grant will contribute to the vitality of downtown Bellefonte by enhancing the waterfront and giving the area a boost as a destination for visitors,” Senator Corman said. “It is important that we work to enhance local attractions such as this so we all have the opportunities to enjoy our region’s many beautiful natural resources, historic sites, shopping and more.”
“This grant is a strategic investment in the local economy and in the future jobs that this project will create for Bellefonte and the surrounding area,” Benninghoff said. “I am proud to have helped secure this for our community.”
The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) under its Multimodal Transportation Funding Program.
The borough and the Bellefonte Waterfront Association will install a promenade on Dunlap Street, where an 80-room boutique hotel is scheduled for construction. The promenade will act as an secondary pedestrian path to the downtown, spanning the length of the street and eventually wrapping around the hotel and running along Spring Creek.
Dunlap Street serves as a connector between High and Lamb streets. As part of this plan, Dunlap Street will be completely reconstructed, repaved and reconfigured from a one-way to a two-way street.
The total project cost is about $1.4 million.
